Throughout the 20th century the use of hazardous materials such as asbestos, PCBs and lead-based paints for the construction of buildings in Australia was widespread. Asbestos became known as the wonder material and its use was eventually prohibited as the increase in awareness and as the risks to health and the environment developed.
The legacy of hazardous materials used within many commercial, industrial, Government & residential properties continues across Australia and New Zealand. The management of hazardous material and asbestos is now heavily regulated under both the Work Health and Safety legislation, and environmental legislation. The assessment and management of asbestos via surveys, risk assessments, preparation of Asbestos Registers, periodical inspections, and asbestos risk management plans all form part of the legislative requirements.
EI Australia’s Hazardous Materials team has the expertise and understanding of the requirements for the assessment and management of Hazardous Materials. Our hazardous materials team contains a number of licenced asbestos assessors and competently trained staff who can be called on to complete:
EI Australia has a thorough understanding of the National Environmental Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure (Australia’s national standard for assessing contaminated sites), which adopts the Western Australian guidelines for the assessment, remediation and management of asbestos-contaminated sites. We also have over 25 years of wide-ranging project experience in older urban industrial areas in Sydney and other Australian cities and rural townships, that allow EI Australia to be able to conduct soil asbestos assessments and develop remedial action plans to enable the effective management of asbestos-impacted land.
EI Australia’s hazardous materials team works closely with our Contaminated Land Management team to provide an integrated management solution for comprehensive environmental services for a wide range of private industry and Government clients.
